Finger Pricking for a Non-T1D

My name is KJ and I've been with my wonderful wife for 9 years now (married for five). She was diagnosed with T1D about three years before we met. Throughout the past 9 years I've learned a lot about this disease and what it can do to those with it in regards to their physical, emotional and mental well-being. It's also a lot on a person who loves and lives with someone who has T1D.

My hope for this blog is that it can be a place where I virtually give myself an occasional finger prick. Something to check the levels and make sure we're all on the same page. And, much like my T1D wife, if the results aren't ideal, we adjust.

It's not that I need to vent, or that I need to find others who are going through the same stuff; it's that I think partners of people with T1D have a lot they can share with each other and, at times, I'm sure we could use each other to lean on.

I find myself sometimes googling "Spouses of T1D" just to see what pops up. I find other blogs, web articles and the like. One blogger was talking about her frustration that during extreme lows for her husband in the middle of the night, she finds herself unable to go back to sleep. She found frustration that after correcting, it was all too easy for him to drift back off.

Adrenaline. During extreme lows when I wake up and notice my wife convulsing, my adrenaline goes through the roof. Once that 15-20 minute situation is taken care of, I find it very hard to calm myself down. To ease my adrenaline levels. I'd like to to an entire post on how my wife's extreme lows hit me. In fact, there are a TON of topics I'd love to cover, including couples dieting/exercising and why is this absolutely critical in helping improve their A1C as well as treating extreme lows and the emotional feelings you get.

I could write on all of these topics (plus more) all day long. I love my wife more than anything else in this world and I consider it a true partnership to try my absolute best in helping her manage her T1D.

For now, it's her 30th birthday and we're off to see the Chicago Blackhawks play a home game. It's our first time there and she's wanted to do this for years!

Thanks for reading. Keep on supporting each other!
